Origin Story
This fully washed Peaberry lot comes from Kakindu Estate in Kiambu County, Kenya, one of the country's most celebrated coffee-growing regions. Situated just north of Nairobi at elevations up to 2,000 metres, the estate benefits from rich red volcanic soils, cool nights, and abundant sunshine. These ideal conditions allow coffee cherries to ripen slowly, producing the vibrant acidity, sweetness, and complexity for which Kenyan coffees are renowned.
Kakindu Estate spans 76 hectares and is one of six estates owned and operated by Sasini, a majority Kenyan-owned company with a long-standing commitment to quality, sustainability, and community. Alongside producing exceptional coffee, Sasini invests in the wellbeing of its workers through fair employment, housing, education, and local community initiatives, helping to support the next generation of coffee-growing families.
Only carefully selected ripe cherries are harvested before undergoing Kenya's traditional fully washed process. After depulping, the coffee is fermented to remove the remaining mucilage, washed through grading channels where the densest beans are separated, then soaked in clean water before being slowly dried on raised African beds. This meticulous approach produces a cup with remarkable clarity, lively acidity, and exceptional sweetness. As a Peaberry lot, where only a single rounded bean develops inside each cherry, the coffee offers an even more concentrated and expressive flavour profile.
Roastery & Brewing Notes
Bright, elegant, and beautifully structured, this coffee showcases everything that makes Kenyan washed coffees so distinctive. Rich black cherry sweetness is complemented by smooth chocolate ganache, creating a luxurious balance between vibrant fruit and deep cocoa richness. A juicy acidity brings energy and freshness to every sip, while the clean washed process allows each flavour to shine with precision and clarity.
Equally impressive as a filter coffee or a lively, fruit-forward espresso, this is a coffee that rewards careful brewing with exceptional complexity and sweetness.
