Origin Story

Ethiopia is thought of by many as the birthplace of the coffee bean. As the story goes; a goat herder noticed his flock had an abnormal amount of energy after eating some unusual red cherries, and the rest is history.

For this single origin, 750 smallholder producers contribute their cherry harvest to the Halo Beriti Washing Station nestled in between the Nech Sar and Bale Mountains National Parks in southern Ethiopia. These cherries are grown at 2100 - 2300 miles above sea level (for comparison; Market Harborough, Leicestershire is 80 masl).

The producers deliver cherries by weight to receive payment at the market rate. And Halo then sort and wet the cherries to remove the mucilage, before drying on beds to achieve the desired coffee beans - this is the washed process.

Roastery & Brewing Notes

We are incredibly excited by this outstanding Grade 1 Yirgacheffe. Beans from the Yirgacheffe region are highly revered throughout the coffee community. The cup is consistently smooth with indulgent toffee, tangy apricot and balancing cantaloupe melon creating a coffee full of enjoyment with a candied mouthfeel.
